Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, the Emir of Riyadh Region, laid down the symbolic block that officially opened the university. Present during the ceremonies were Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd himself, leading businessmen from Eastern Province, and government officials. Prince Salman, in his speech, said that Eastern Province is a region of great wealth, and that education is one of its enduring legacies. Prince Mohammad, for his part, said the PMU is a university for mankind and for all peoples. PMU was conceived and built with the vision of producing graduates capable of leadership in diverse fields of business, engineering, information technology, culture, education, community development and public administration. It has vision of preparing future leaders in various fields of human knowledge and their application. The university is symmetrically divided to provide facilities for both male and female students. The male academic facilities include the colleges of engineering, business administration, and information technology. The female campus houses academic facilities for colleges of business administration, information technology, and the department of interior designs. Dr. Issa Ansari, managing director of PMU, said the university will partially starts its classes by the last quarter of this year. The PMU campus is located on Half-Moon Road near the coast of Al Khobar City. The location is easily accessible to the communities of Greater Dammam area, the business, commercial and industrial sectors. The university was founded through the financial contribution of leading Saudi businessmen in Eastern Province. Prince Mohammad himself contributed SR.27 million, excluding the land. Prince Salman pledged SR.2 million. Among those who contributed money to the PMU were Abdulaziz Abahasain (SR.26 million), Hamad A. Al-Zamil (SR23 million), Sulaiman Al-Olayan (SR21 million), YBA Kanoo (SR10 million), Algosaibi Group (SR.11 million), Saad Abdulaziz Almoajil (SR10 million), Samba (SR7 million), Abdulhadi Hamad Al-Zoby (SR3 million), Sabic (SR5 million), Riyadh Bank (SR5 milion), Nasser Ibrahim Al-Rasheed (SR2 million), Khalid Abdulrahman Al Abdulkarim (SR2 million), Khalid Mohammad Albawardi (SR.1.9 million), Al-Jomaih Group (SR2 million), Al-Nemer Group (SR2 million), Abdulaziz and Khalid Al-Qahtani (SR2 million), and Khalid bin Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim (SR2 million).
